4 Issues to Consider When Adding Encryption
Issue 1: Is loss of synchronization preventing you from using encryption?
Existing communications systems become notoriously unstable when secure voice features are added. QuikSync™ methods significantly enhance existing system compatibility with encryption boards. Cimarron boards have been proven time and again to work in communications systems that will not tolerate other secure voice methods.
Issue 2: Is your hardware upgradeable to future security needs?
Most after-market secure voice boards implement only one level of security. These units generally offer fixed capabilities that may range from a simple, single-frequency inversion to a hopping code. If you make the wrong choice when you purchase boards, you may need to scrape, return or upgrade them for a different level of security and system compatibility. In contrast, QuikSync™ uses Software-Defined Encryption™. So rather than replace existing boards, you simply reprogram them for the new, higher level of security.
Issue 3: How effective is the security?
When you’re trying to block eavesdroppers, random is good. The more random the hops, the better. QuikSync™ offers the best of both aspects of encryption: frequency and duration. It is capable of randomly changing both inversion frequencies and the duration of each inversion frequency shift. Even the ranges are adjustable to meet your specific requirements.
In addition, there is no “sliding or rolling” between frequencies. The frequency hops are distinct and can be as far apart as 2000Hz. And, because the QuikSync™ hops stay on one frequency for just 1/50th of a second, they are virtually untraceable. To put this into perspective, you could fit about 15 frequency hops into the time it takes to blink an eye. These software-driven modulations dramatically increase the likelihood that secure messages will remain secure.
Issue 4: Is there space inside your radios for multiple features?
Room is always an issue in portable radios. Most are not designed to accept more than one upgrade board. If an operator wants both ANI and encryption in one unit, sometimes a choice has to be made. Because QuikSync™ is the only board to offer MDC-1200 and GE-STAR ANI with scrambling, you have the best of both technologies on one chip. And an added benefit is the installation process is much easier.
