Personnel

Stephen Barry
President -

Steve has been happily married for 18 years and has two boys 14 and 16. The family loves camping at the beach, the desert and the mountains. His hobbies revolve around fun stuff like building RC airplanes, flying stunt kites, riding off-road motorcycles and amateur astronomy with an 8” telescope.

Other hobbies are playing guitar and bass in a classic rock band. The Smith Mountain Band is celebrating its 30th year with the same members. Steve also designs audio circuits and solar power system controllers.

Steve started Cimarron in 1991 as a new player in the two-way radio industry. Although making the company successful has been challenging, he gets a lot of satisfaction from running the company and from the many significant engineering advances the company has made in its field. He attributes much of this success to the dedicated, experienced team he’s had over the years.

Lyle Kankelborg
Vice President -

Lyle is a former naval electronics officer who enlisted after high school. He’s been married for 17 years with a combined family of 5, ages 20 to 28. Lyle and his wife are certified scuba divers. In addition, they enjoy regular long walks, wine tasting and gourmet cooking.

He has a home-based business to support his hobby of designing electronics. He enlists family’s help in some of the light production work. They work as a team doing mechanical assembly for projects like computer adaptors and laser tag battery chargers.

Lyle has been at Cimarron for 11 years. To him, the most rewarding part is coming up with concept and then designing something. He spends time listening to some feature that customers want to work. Or maybe they’ll mention something that’s a challenge and wonder if it could be made easier. He finds it satisfying to have customers tell him how they like the solution he’s designed for their particular application.

Mark Cranmore
Sales and Marketing Manager -

Mark is also a family man who was raised in San Diego. He and his wife have a combined family of 5. They are avid campers and have camped all over the US and in many parts of Mexico.

Although he enjoys fishing and hiking, his real love is horseback riding. His wife got him interested in horses about seven years ago.

Mark has a personal goal of competing in the Tevis Cup, a 100-mile, one-day horseback ride that takes you through the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. It’s known as the toughest one-day ride in the world. Competitors from dozens of countries compete though less than half of them finish.

He likes working with people. It’s rewarding to him to be able to help dealers find solutions to their customer’s problems. He enjoys the development of new products at Cimarron. Seeing an idea sketched on paper that eventually turns into product that customers use is very satisfying for him.

Irene Hurt
Operations Manager -

Irene has been with her significant other for 11 years. Her 26-year old daughter has a big interest in Texas Hold ‘Em poker and just got her dealer’s license.

Irene has been golfing for ten years. She likes traveling, too, and sometimes takes golfing vacations to places like the Bahamas, Sedona and Palm Springs. She also plays with a group of women who travel to local courses for golf outings.

She has worked in the electronics industry since her late teens and feels comfortable with it. Although she’s worked for large companies, it was unrewarding. She likes the small company feel. Her position with Cimarron lets her see all facets of the company.
